First, I have to tell you the story behind Izzy’s birthday cake this year. I asked him what kind of cake he wanted and he said – and this is exactly how he said it – “I know it sounds kinda weird, but I want turkey cake because my birthday hardly ever comes on Thanksgiving.” In fact, due to a leap year or something, his birthday hasn’t coincided with Thanksgiving Day since his actual birth. So I looked online to see if I could find a turkey cake. He wanted it standing up, 3 dimensional. I wasn’t sure how I was going to pull that off.
Meanwhile, my friend Jane saw a three dimensional turkey cake pan and bought it for me for my birthday – which was earlier in November. She had no idea Israel requested the turkey cake. I truly believe God was in this detail and it was fun to explain this to my quiet, easy to overlook, non-twin Israel.
The cake was easy. I made the caramel apple cake batter, glued the halves together with royal icing, and piped colored icing on a few parts to add a little color.
